Some Thoughts on My Philosophy as a Realtor

Denver Nook–Denver Realtor who is fun and trustworthy

I was recently on a podcast where we were talking all things real estate, and I said something I find to be very true to my experience as a realtor that I wanted to share with you all:

“My goal is not to get my client to the closing table, it is to get them and everyone they know to a closing table.”

I’m going to unpack that a little and show you a little bit about why I work the way I work.

I want you to get the right home for you

When I’m working on your behalf to find you a house, I am not trying to close your deal at all costs, because I know that there are some costs that you are not going to want to pay.

Sometimes that means a literal asking price or negotiation that is driving a purchase price too high, but often it is something in the house’s structure or set-up that just doesn’t fit with what you’re looking for.

At first it might seem counterintuitive, but I think one of the most important parts of my job is actually talking clients out of a house because some aspect of my experience tells me that either a better fit is out there, or that the house at hand is a bad fit.

What it comes down to is trust, and I try to earn my clients’ trust by doing right by them.

I want you to love the process and tell your friends

If I help get you in a house that you don’t like just so that I can earn a commission, are you ever going to recommend me to someone you love? I don’t think so.

That’s why I’m so proud of the Testimonials page on my website. It’s one thing to tell you why I think I’m good at what I do, but it’s another thing entirely for you to tell someone you care about that you’d recommend working with me.

Again, that all comes down to trust, and for my clients to be able to trust their loved ones to my expertise is both the biggest compliment I can receive, and a goal that helps align my efforts for clients.

As I say on my website, “I pride myself on being your guide, your champion, and your trusted advisor through this personal and exciting journey.” If I can live up to that, then I’m confident that we can get you to the closing table that is right for you, and that you’ll want to tell all your friends about it too!
