Fall House Prep for Denver Winter

In Colorado, where there are 300+ days of sunshine, it’s true that we have plenty more warm days left in 2025, but it’s also inevitable that we’re going to have a few snowstorms mixed in too.

Now is the time of year when it’s good to be out in front of your prep so an early snow doesn’t catch you by surprise.

If you need a refresher, or especially if this is your first winter in a new home, here’s a helpful checklist of to-do’s to keep an eye on:

Winterizing Your Sprinkler System

It’s very important to have your sprinkler system blown out to make sure that the lines don’t freeze and crack when the temperature drops.

Price range: Usually $70–$200 depending on the yard and provider.

Furnace / Heat / Boiler System Tune-Ups

This recommended annual maintenance is a combination of inspection and cleaning that can extend your system’s life and maintain efficiency so that your energy bills don’t get out of hand.

Price range: Usually $70–$150 depending on the system.

Tree Pruning

In cases of heavy snow, tree limbs can do big damage to your home. Consulting a professional to remove dead or damaged limbs, especially if they are encroaching on your home, can save you from disaster.

Price range: Very variable, ranging from $100–$2000 depending on many factors.

Gutter Cleaning

This is something to wait a bit until all the leaves have fallen, but cleaning out your gutters before the winter can ensure proper snow drainage, and help you catch any larger problems that need fixing.

Price range: From elbow grease up to $250.

Storm Window Installation

If your house has storm windows, switching out your summer setup for your winter setup can help maintain heating efficiency and lower energy bills. It’s usually just a matter of remembering to do it!

Price range: DIY

A little bit of prep can go a long way to preventing costly accidents and repairs, and will let you better enjoy the joys of a Colorado winter.

If instead of winter-proofing you are looking to buy and / or sell, you should definitely reach out and we can talk about how to reach your goals!
